The argument between O and M in the last presidential campaign debate has inspired many people to think about what would be a good economic plan for present US.
The first issue that they talk about is the tax plan. O basically proposes to lower mid-to-low income family's tax while raising high income family's. First of all, this policy obviously weakens the companies in the US. Second, he is trying to distribute wealth into more people's hands, which may encourage them to spend more money into the market and thus improve the economy. However, without directing their spending into American products, those profits may be earned by foreign companies. Third, he is trying to cater the majority of American and thus attract more votes. This is somewhat like sacrificing the future of US to realize his own political ambition.
He also proposes to provide tax benefits for the companies who can provide jobs for local American. With his another policy that helps American people be better educated, this is a real good plan.
On the other hand, M proposes to lower corporation tax. He does pretty well in helping US companies have an easier life and be more competitive in the world, but he fails to increase wealth that mid-to-low income family have, which is the majority of American people. It may not be true that, as he say, more successful US companies create more jobs for US people. They may invest their new profits or they may outsource the new jobs...anyway, it just helps the rich richer, but guarantees nothing else.
In my opinion, a successful president does not only satisfy majority of or a portion of the people in his country, but also has the commission to invent the country a good future. This can be and only can be satisfied by guarantee both that the country has enough amount of successful companies providing jobs, controlling the world's market and thus leading the world's economy and that those jobs are taken by the people of the companies' own country. The reason why there has to be companies from that country is, companies always leads the economy and also they always exploit and thus earn from their employees. Those extra profits are really awarding. In this way, the country is really earning money from others and it is the people from that country who are enjoying the profits.
What we may do to realize that goal?
Lower tax for those companies who creates jobs for local people +
Help the majority of people be better educated and more competitive in job market
This doesn't put the burden of lower national income because of mass tax cut onto the government, while creating more both employers' and employees' income and thus increasing the government tax income in the end.

Our world is full of God's love.
For his intelligence and grace are far away from the most that we can imagine, we only perceive his love such a little. Sadly enough, we often neglect his love and grace and what is worse, even refuse his love or disobey his order. Sinful as we are, we are still receiving God's love infinitely.
Our life is full of sorrow and pain.
More than often, we can find God's blessings behind the superficial tribulation. Maybe at first we complain and hate, but surely he would reveal his love to his. That would be even more than the earthly stuff that we could receive.Trust him, depend on him and praise him, for he is much more superior than we are.
Our life is full of hope.
Stand! Brothers and sisters! God would not have those believing in him fall. Disregarding our untimely imprecation, he would abundantly offer what we need at the right time. And when the final judgement comes, all would triumph and his grace would pour upon us. We would live with him together in heaven forever.

Why did Holland fall behind Britain? I only have some guessing. That is they did pretty well in trading, but they did very little to develop their domestic industry. As a result, they couldn't enjoy the profit from manufacturing, and they would seem quite weak when it comes to the moment when countries compete on their comprehensive power, such as during a war. What they had was just money itself, no manufacturing power. That's far away from a global superpower.
We can say they pretty much lost to Britain, who, on the opposite, developed a whole industry system. What made it so?
Britain enjoyed pleasant politics. From Elizabeth's excellent governance, to the Glorious Evolution. Their leaders really cared about the prosperity of the nation and paved way for that.
British enjoyed the most advanced science and technology at that time. They opened quite a few extraordinary institutions and fed many great scientist in human history, many of which were quite fruitful, such as Newton. They also made it ease for science to transform into technology, as they enacted the first patent law in the world. Not surprisingly, advanced technologies, such as steam engine, gave a great boost to their industry economy. They also paid attention to the science of economy: Adam Smith published the Wealth of Nations, which wisely suggested free trade instead of unilateral sale--this greatly help British export their goods and thus earn money.
Not surprisingly either, British set up "British Empire" in the world from Mid-1700 to Mid-1800. But as they benefited from their colony, they also paid very much for them, as to repress colonial people's resurgence. However, they were not as wise in this matter as they were as for economy and science. Finally, they gave their clone to the new arising America and Germany.

They started their way to an empire on catching clupeoid and selling them. Scotch also did that for a live at that time, but the Dutch exceeded them by inventing the skill which can get rid of gut of fish with one slash of their knives. They sold their clupeoid all over the world. That implanted a tradition of commerce into their mind.
They enjoyed a great geographical position. English had a better one, but the Dutch exceeded them by making and sailing on their unarmed trader(ship) (though took a risk in meeting pirates). Also, they made the kind of trader(ship) which had a narrow deck but a big round belly--that can save taxes in some countries taxing traders by the area of the deck.
They had a relatively loose empirical governance, which enabled their free trading from or to other areas. (Later, they learned the lessen why a united nation is crucial for the rise of a nation in the war against Spain. And they learned well, as they formed a republic democracy during/after the war.)
They were so intelligent to invent the well working financial system, most of whose fundamental disciplines are still ruling today. The idea of stock, stock exchange, and bank. As lubricated by finance, Dutch economy grew just faster, faster and faster.
In Mid-1600, half of the traders(ship) sailing in the world were Dutch. In 1656, they met the emperor of China of the time--the Shun Zhi Emperor. Most of the diplomats from Europe at that time couldn't tolerate Chinese etiquette of meeting the emperor--knocking head three times and doing obeisance nine times--it really sounds excessive now. But they did it. Yeah, for profit, for the permission of trading with China. How could such a business genius country fail?
When William of Orange sailed from Holland to England to ascend the throne, the power of the world also transfered with him. I will talk about the reason in the next post.

In 1400 AD, when other England and France were fight for the domination of mainland Europe, when Germany was still divided as hundreds of small kingdoms, when China was mourning for the crapping governing by the Ming Dynasty, Portugal and Spain made an explosion of their wealth and became the first global empire in the world.
As Ottoman Turkey empire rose, the traditional commercial channel between the east and the west was cut off and most of the little left was controlled by Italian. Without vast farm land or other natural resources like France or other nations, the two nation which had just got independence from the Pope really needed to think about how to grow healthy and powerful. Luckily, Portugal saw the birth of a very wise price, Henry the explorer. He lead the "liberation of people's mind", encouraged people's expedition to the rest of the world and really guided people to do research and experiments. After two decades' effort, they made their first step to Africa. And quickly, they saw the great benefit of their previous hard work. However, most of their job was to set colony in Africa and robbed treasure from the huge wealthy continent.
Spain didn't want to be left behind. They did even further, as they were the one who supported Columbus to discover the America. They also claimed the right to explore the world and argued with their little neighbor. The result of the quarrel was Spain's west half of the world and Portugal's east half. At the great time of Age of Discovery, these two nations controlled most of the global trading and lead the world as two empire.
However, they didn't spend their money in developing industry and their so called trading was somewhat like selling what they had robbed to other European nations. Those rich spent most of their money earned by buying goods from other European countries, which did help other nations' growth in their economy, and ordinary people didn't enjoyed much from the expeditions. Such prosperity couldn't last for long. Not long later, their predominance were taken place by other European countries.
